Location: Lakeview; Chicago, Illinois
Scope: Renovation of master suite & kitchen + family room areas of vintage condominium unit. Design by Allen Halvorsen with David Lloyd. Construction management by David Lloyd.
Challenges: Re-design of dated master suite and kitchen + family room interiors, into contemporary spaces that are harmonious with the balance of this gracious vintage apartment. Careful phasing and containment of construction areas was required to facilitate continuous occupancy of unit by owner.
Solution: Partial re-planning of Master suite and kitchen areas to open up space and improve efficiency. Updated plumbing + electrical, sound system & home theater were installed. Sleek, contemporary surfaces including glass & porcelain tile and quartz counter tops were used to impart a clean, minimal aesthetic in these areas. Organic materials such as Calcatta marble and rift-sawn white oak were used to add warmth and vitality, while bridging these spaces to the balance of the unit’s existing vintage interior. A neutral color palette of warm greys and creams were selected to provide a timeless backdrop for the owner’s colorful array of art, furnishings and objects.
